Incredible video. Thank you very much. If only you actually showed pictures for the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Otherwise, perfect video.
this song got even more beautiful
I just imagine them singing this song that day and singing it again on the plane. I know the song was written 10 years later.
I thought Ritchie was terrified to fly? If that was the case why would he beg Tommy to fly 6 times that night ?
I was there that night!! I gave them the coin!!
Matrix wrote this song abdy only few can understand
Rip ritchie.. watched your movie for the 100th. True OG
i absolutely hate this song… 🤮
For “generation lost in space”, could this be a reference to the lost generation of 1918? Perhaps McLean felt like the veterans from Vietnam shared more in common with the vets of ww1 than those of ww2 (lost generation vs greatest generation)
Old America, Miss American pie, it's servant minded politicians and public workforce, it's responsible public spending, it's family-centered values, it's belief in freedom, it's Christian values: these ideas have all but passed. McLean saw the trends that started in Vietnam, the trans leading to the passing of a nation. Of course he couldn't admit that.
If there is a better song than this, I haven't heard it.
The jester wasn’t a reference to Bob Dylan. McLean confirmed it in the Netflix doco on the song in about 2021
I learned a lot 😢😢😢❤❤❤It's funny how 🤔 you spend your whole life hearing a song and then one day it's like you hear it w new ears 👂 😂❤I love that!❤😊
Tommy it was a pleasure to have you as my family it was our families gift from God thanks
Rip
this video is older than me
They weren't fighting there Father's War! Ali got it spot on
The day the people stopped believing in the American Government
Tommy Allsup, had a reputation, when He lived in Los Angeles, as one of the Worst liers in the music industry. And A man you would'nt trust, with a dime. A money hungry musician, who did Not achieve nothing of importance. Very arrogant, in studio sessions.
❤
Imagine that. It's such a haunting and sad story 🎶
❤❤❤❤
I loved this song for years never knowing anything. My mind is blown. Such talent. Mind blown.
Thank you for including the description
“Don’t ask me who I gave my seat to on that plane”
V. I. LENIN, V.I. Lenin. Vladimir Illanich Uleninov! Not John Lennon, lmao. I am the walrus!
Thank God Walen gave his seat up.
they are missed

Bravo!! Your amazing video had me going back and forth between the interpretations and researching the actual events, so I could make better sense of what was going on in the world at this time, since I wasn't born yet. Thank you so much!!! 🙂
Don McLean wrote American Pie about 10 years after Buddy Holly died. I seem to remember hearing once, He had also lost his father around the same time.
I was 12 years old in 1959, 24 when this song came out. As such it compresses my entire teen years. I lived through all that? I particularly appreciate the images selected to illustrate the story. Thanks for putting this together.
Well La Bamba showed Richie with a cold. I had no idea it was The Big Bopper.
I've never seen the American Pie story put together like this. VERY NICE.
This makes my heart sing , Don McLean is all that and no more 😅 no
My brain hurts
This video is as old as me.... geez. Loving the algorithm tonight.
How did all the IDs survive a fire plane crash🤔
My parents told me what it's about and im 42 the plane crash that took them out
this is older then me😳
I use " The Day The Music Died" to describe how it felt and still feels after my Daddy and Great Grandmother passed away. The Music Died when they both did.
Tommy Allsup was sort of the Texas version of Scotty Moore to me. There was no standard for what a rock and roll lead guitarist should be...how should he sound...what does he play...that sort of thing. There's a whole group of 50's guitarists, like Moore and Allsup, that literally had to write the book so that those of us who came along later have a kind of classic template as how to do that stuff. Glad to see he's still a Stratocaster player, as am I.
American pie means like saying ur proud of being American
16 years later I’m here what the fuck that’s insane2023
You don't hear songs today that have a story. This is by far the best song with a history written into it.
A great song and every time in my youth, when I heard it, it was amazing. Now I`m 56 and I remember to my youth with a smile in my face....
God is alive he lives in you +
+ be with us all
Whoever made this edit is brilliant. Notice how words interconnects with images that interconnects with music which interconnects with images.
Gongrats for the amazing video!
Oh my god I get it! 😢 I’m sobbing I get it finally that’s what it was about! 😢😢😢😢😢😢 wow! What a beautiful tribute song!
